'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The picture is one of our most famous grave markers. 'I Told You I Was Sick'.
This weeks books were 'for one more day' by Mitch Albom. It is a wonderful book that I read in one sitting. The second book was 'From Baghdad, With Love' by Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman and Melinda Roth. A story about bring a puppy to America.
The Weather: In the low 80's with clear and sunny skies. Plants are in bloom all over the island.
'Pirates in Paradise'. Where else can you hang out in a bar with strangely dressed people drinking out of their own mugs while they wear guns and knives and swords. The center for this event was Fort Zack with the pirates camped in the fort. There was the Pirate Fest, Pirate Pub, and the Village Thieves' Market. There was also the re-enactment of the Mary Reed and Anne Bonny Trial and walks off the Plank of the Schooner Wolf. The Pirates attacked the Fort which was manned by British forces. You could stand on the beach with the pirates or join the British in the Fort.
The Key West (Southernmost) Parrot Head Club had its Christmas Party Saturday night at Margaritaville. We each brought a toy for 'Toys for Tots'. A wonderful time was had by all.
The Key West Holiday Parade was Saturday night. We sat on the curb outside Margaritaville and watched. Some years ago almost every entry had a Santa, it made it hard to tell when the parade is over. This year I only counted 4 Santa's and there wasn't one at the end of the Parade.
I took the dogs for a ride in the Suzuki with the top down. It was in the low 80's and the dogs and I enjoyed it. We went to Home Depot to do some shopping, then went to the dog park, and then to the beach. After all that we went to Schooner Wharf to listen to Michael McCloud.
