This Week on the Island 03/18/2007
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week is the new statues at the Southernmost Point. (Key West is pretty far south. As a matter of fact the corner of South Street and Whitehead Street is the Southernmost Point in the continental USA.)
This week I read 'Key Weird' by Robert Tacoma. A funny and entertaining little book.
The Weather: The same as last week. It was wonderful this week. High 70's and low 80's with no humidity.
St. Pat's Day in Key West would not be complete without a 'Key West Bar Crawl'. This year it started at the beach on the Atlantic side of Duval at noon and ended at Schooner Wharf on the Gulf side of the Island. The cost was $20 (you get a t-shirt and a badge). The badge lets you into a bunch of bars to get a free green beer. There is a large crowd (dressed in green) that works it's way down Duval. I believe a good time was had by all and I am sure there were a lot of green heads the next morning. Pictures at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ThisWeekontheIsland/ click PHOTO the click ST PAT.

So we begin the 3rd week of Spring Break. Spring Break in Key West is from the first week of March thru Easter weekend (April 8th this year). We will only have 6 weeks of Spring Breakers this year. When Easter come the last Sunday of April, we have about 8 weeks of Spring Break. The island is packed. Lots of college kids everywhere. Lots of motorcycles down from Daytona. Pretty much the same as last week.
Key West, You have got to love it
