This Week on the Island 08/09/2015
‘This
Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends
about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those
parts that are lies.
Weather:
Same old same old. Beautiful, but a little warm. ‘All the days are the same
here’, Jimmy Buffett.
This
week I continued reading ‘Silent Partner’ by Jonathan Kellerman.
Sunday was ‘The Battle of the Bars’ on Lazy Way Lane
behind Schooner Wharf Bar. Each bar has a team of 7 members. The race is
between 2 teams at a time. If you lose, you can buy your way back in. (1) mixes
the Margarita, (2) delivers the Margarita to the table, (3) drinks the
Margarita (best job), (4) cleans the table and runs to the recycle bins, (5)
roles a keg and taps it, (6) draws 7 beers, (7) carries the beers to the team
mates all in a line. Each member, one at a time, drinks their beer and puts
their cup upside down on their head, then the next member drinks their beer.
The fastest time wins. This year $11,667 was collected for Key West Rotary
Children’s Dental Program and the Florida Keys Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals. The charitable funds raised Sunday brought the 22-year
grand total raised to $301,587.
Also
this week was ‘LOBSTER FEST’. Where else can you sit on the curb in 90 degree
heat and eat lobster and drink a beer. http://www.keywestlobsterfest.com/
September 3 – 7, 2015 – PARTY – 6th Annual Key West Brewfest
Coming Sept 17-20, the 43rd
