This Week on the Island 06/07/2015
‘This
Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends
about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those
parts that are lies.
Weather: June is here with the start of the wet season and hurricane season. Hot and humid with a chance of rain for the next 6 months.
This
week I read ’Bahamarama’ by Bob Morris.
Saturday
was ‘Swim around Key West’. It is a 12.5 mile swim and started at 10:30 AM on
Smathers beach. Of course this means, to watch, you could go to Smathers Beach,
White Street Pier, Fort Zack, Mallory Square, or maybe Cow Key Channel Bridge
(bridge between Key West and Stock Island). Sunset Pier has a bar so that was a
great choice of places to watch.
School
is out, so lots of high school and college kids in town. Very noisy. It is good
to see things haven’t changed much since I was a kid. They still do the same
dumb stuff I used to do.
So, The
Husky’s and I took a walk.
Past
B.O.’s Fish Wagon
Past The
new hotel
Past
what is supposed to be a brew house, if they ever finish it.
Past the
Schooner Western Union
Past
Schooner Wharf. NO‘s’. Not Schooners or Schooner’s.
Across
the bight is Conch Republic Seafood.
On down
Lazy Way Lane
Pass
Jimmy Buffett’s recording studio ‘Shrimp Boat Sounds’
Pass Kermits
Key Lime Shop
And then
we finish the walk around the block and head home.
Thanks
for joining me and the dogs.
Hope you remembered 'D' Day on Saturday.
