This Week on the Island 06/16/2013

‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Hot and humid with a chance for rain. In the mid 80’s in the day and the high 70’s at night.

This week I read ‘The Book of Invention’ by Thomas J. Craughwell. A great little book of when and where things were invented.

Saturday morning and the boat is headed for the Dry Tortugas. It is a national park about 70 miles west and home to a very large Fort Jefferson. The place is called the Dry Tortugas because there is no fresh water there and it was the home of many sea turtles when the Spanish named it.

Saturday morning and all the fishing boats that are usually docked by the Boat Bar are all out fishing. Hope they have a great day.

Looks like some one had a good day fishing. This is a friend of mine, Run. He is by the boardwalk at Schooners cleaning the fish caught today.

The Presidential Gates at the Truman Annex are being rebuilt. You may remember a while back when a lady took them down with her car.

This is the view from a table at Schooner. I have sent pictures before of the view of the Atlantic from a bench out near the airport, the view of the ships cannel from another bench at Fort Zack, and the view of the outer mole from another bench at Truman Annex. This table at Schooner has the advantage of coming with adult beverages.

Last week, Gary from Nashville came over to met Boca and I at Schooner. Gary is a reader of this blog. Boca and I also spent some time at Schooner with a couple from Virginia. Bill and Nancy Klug are back in town from Orlando.

Boca, the Siberian Husky spends his days sleeping in the bath tub. I guess it is the coolest spot in the house.

We leave you this week with another beautiful Key West sunset from the pier at the end of Simonton Street.
