This Week on the Island 11/25/2012
‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: A bit chilly lately. Some days it barely got to the low 70’s. Lot of sun and blue skies, with lots of wind. Saturday was beautiful for Boca’s birthday at Schooner.
The book this week was ‘Assassin’s Shadow’ by Randy Wayne White.
We hope you had a great Thanksgiving. We had friends over and set the table up in the back yard. After eating we sat around the table and talked, just like a bunch of old people. No electronic gadgets in site.
On Thanksgiving, they had frozen turkey bowling on Green Street in front of Tattoos and Scars.
Schooner Wharf Bar is still under construction. The old building has basically been rebuilt, but work continues on the new build which will be two stories. It will have Schooner’s refrigeration units below and some ticket booths and it will have Schooner’s offices in the 2nd story. They are also talking about adding a new deck on top of the new rebuilt one story building.
This place on Green Street has been many things (In the tropics they come and they go’ – Jimmy Buffett). It was The Sports Page and now it is to be another bar of a different name. Nothing seems to make it in this building for more than 2 years.
This building has been many things (‘In the tropics they come and they go’ – Jimmy Buffett). Lately it was Dippin’ Dots Ice Cream and then it was Key West Cigars now it is Duett.
This building was the Citizen (the Key West newspaper). It has also been lots of different businesses (in the tropics ---bla bla bla’ – Jimmy Buffett). The last thing here was the Steel Horse Saloon. It appears the building is being divided into smaller footage units.
A picture of a Key West car as it was being driven down Duval Street.
We celebrated Boca’s 8th birthday at Schooner on Saturday. This was the cake for people and was sliced and given to the wait staff at Schooner. An old friend from Charlotte dropped by and had a few adult beverages with us.
This was the dog cake and was passed out to all the dogs at Schooner. Boca had a good day.
