This Week on the Island 03/29/2009

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘What Happened?’ This sign is on the corner of Caroline and Peacon (Grunt Bone Alley). Peacon is pronounced Pea-Kun. It is a family name and is NOT named after the nut. The other much older name is named after the fish the grunt. You fry them whole and eat them bones and all. Therefore there would be no fish bones on Grunt Bone Alley.

Weather: Wonderful

The book this week was ‘What’s in a Word’ by Webb Garrison. Did you know many years ago poor people kept a chair hanging on the wall? When an important person came to visit, the chair was placed on the floor, and they got to sit in the chair. Thus the ‘Chairman’ is the most important person in the room.

This was the 4th week of spring break. I don’t think I need to say more.

Johnny is painting Shrimp Boat Sounds (Buffett’s recording studio on Lazy Lane.) George Strait is coming to do some recording.

Wednesday was another trip on the bus to the Miami VA. Dental cleaning.

Pictures most of you have NOT seen of the Key’s. The things that look like roads under the clear water are channels that have been dug to keep boats from grounding because of the shallow water here and yes, our water is that clear. http://www.ultimatechase.com/chase_accounts/Florida_Keys_Aerial_Photos_031109.htm

If you are a Parrot Head you may want to watch the ‘Howard Livingston’ video from MOTH 2008 at the Casa and the Street party or ‘Parrot Heads in Paradise’ or even ‘Pirates in Paradise’. When you get to the site just do a search.
One of the locals came by the house to visit. She had what looked like a lot of stitches in her upper lip. She said she had been ‘sidewalk snorkeling’. She tripped and fell on the sidewalk and busted her lip.
