'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Weather: Cold for Key West (60 degrees Monday night) and then back into the low 80's. A/C running last week, then windows open and A/C off, then windows closed and cold outside, then windows open and whole house fan on.
The book this week was 'Sick Puppy' by Carl Hiaasen. It is another 'Hoot' or 'Flush' (other books of his ) but this time it is about tree frogs and a major litterbug.
Sunday was the first annual Duval Street Open. It was a Duval Pub Crawl with putting greens in the different bars. $8,500 was raised for charity.
Well it was cold for the 'Conch Train, Christmas Caroling, Christmas Lights', ride on Monday night. It was suppose to be 60 degrees. But with the cold north wind coming off the water it seemed a lot colder. We had a good time, just had to wear a lot more clothes than normal.
Some folks from Michigan are staying at the rental property next door. He and his wife brought their kids (college age) and his parents. He has recently sold his business and is looking to buy in Key West and stay. Nice people.
This week was the winter solstice (shortest day of the year) and the beginning of Winter. I spend some of the day on the beach at Fort Zack. It was in the low 80's.
One of the guys that was a judge when I took my Black Belt test (many years ago) was in town this week. He runs a karate studio in Anderson, SC.
The island is getting packed. Lots of people trying to escape the cold up north and enjoy a nice warm Christmas and New Years.
Jimmy Sings for the Marines...By DriftyGypsy Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally did a special show at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC this past Sunday December 9th. There's a video from part of the show at youtube (thanks to atom2385 for passing that along to us).
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
