This Week on the Island 01/29/2023

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather: Another cold front for 2 days this weekend. But beautiful now. We had another spell of winter for 3 days last weekend (MLK weekend). The last one a few weeks ago was 5 long days.

USCGC Dependable. Launched March 16, 1968. Currently at the Truman Waterfront, Key West

USCGC James launched May 3, 2014, now docked at the Truman Waterfront

It looks like the circus has come to town. Termites here fly in. In South Carolina they would dig a small ditch around the house and put ‘termite killer’ in it and under the house and you were good until next scheduled treatment. We have that type of termite here also BUT that doesn’t stop the flying termites. I like to say nothing last long here. If it is wood the termites are eating it. If it is metal the salt air is rusting it. If it is plastic the sun is drying it out.

Jan 23, 2023, Truman Waterfront Waterpark, 1 PM

White Street Pier, known by the locals as ‘the unfinished bridge to Cuba’.

This used to be the wiener Dog Parade, now all dogs are invited.

This week would have been my Mom's Birthday. Happy Birthday mom. Veo Derrick Bennett 1918- 1999

Also, this week in 1966 I joined the US Air Force.

We leave you with ‘Easy like Sunday morning’.
