This Week on the Island 11/15/2020

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather: It looks like next Wednesday the temperature will not even hit 80 degrees. I guess winter is here. Well at least for a day.

This week I started reading.

I also read a book (Diary) of Emily Holder who was at the Dry Tortugas during the Civil War. Interesting reading if you like that sort of stuff.

Miami and Miami Beach has put in a curfew and also mask rule and checking I.D.’s. The kids are flocking to Key West where we have none of these things. Now would be a good time to stay away.

On The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month WWI ended in 1918. We now call it Veterans Day. The red poppy represents the blood of the dead.

Teeki and I took a little walk down to Mallory Square. In one corner is the War Memorial.

In another corner is the 2-round building that the cable was stored in when we were laying a telegraph line to Cuba.

And at the entrance to Mallory Square is the Memorial to the Wreckers and the heads of people that were important to Key West.

We leave you with Easy like Sunday morning.

Close to Perfect, Far from Normal’
