This Week On The Island 11/16/2008

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Rick and his paintings’. He is sitting next to Kermit’s Key Lime Pie Shop on the corner of Green and Elizabeth.

The Weather: Beautiful. This is why we live here. We had to turn the AC back on.

The book this week was ‘The Sun Also Rises’ by Ernest Hemingway.
We had Goombay followed by Fantasy Fest followed by the Parrot Heads followed by The Offshore Power Boat Races followed by a four day weekend ending with Memorial Day then NOTHING. It is nice and quiet and we deserve it. The next big event is Pirates in Paradise the last of November.

The people of Cuba have been hit by another hurricane. I really feel for them and wish the USA did not have an embargo against them at times like this. They really could use some help.

The Schooner Liberty Clipper (http://www.libertyfleet.com/daily/keywest.htm ) is back in the Key West Bight along with a new schooner the Adirondack ( http://www.sail-nyc.com/html/schooners_adirondack_imagine.html ) . They are parked next to the Schooner Western Union (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=Schooner+Western+Union%20Key+West&w=all which are all next to Schooner Wharf Bar.
