This Week on the Island 03/06/2005
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Weather: a little rain, a little cool; a little sun, a little warm.
The first part of the week we had two Parrot Heads from the Sandlapper Club in South Carolina spend a few days with us. Mike and DeeAnn seemed to have a great time, I'm not sure because they were always on the go. The weather was a little wet but it didn't seem to slow them down.
The good news it that Schooner Wharf Bar has renewed their lease for 10 years with another 10 years added if they do a lot of work to the place. They are to rebuild the second floor that was destroyed by fire some years ago and use that space for their offices. They are also to build handicap accessible restrooms.
The bad news is the 'Carolina Street Partners' had their project approved to construct 25 condos on the old Jabours Trailer Park. The neighborhood has fought this project but I guess 'Carolina Street Partners' finally paid off the right people. It will be sitting right out back of Schooner Wharf.
Oh Well, If you can't fix it, take time off and check out the girls of spring break.
I guess everyone is up-to-date on the pod of dauphin (70) that beached themselves in the Key's. When this happens, the dauphin get cut by the coral, they make loud squealing noises, they roll over and get their blow holes below water and drown and they attract the sharks. Many were rescued and turned back out to sea, some are still in capture pens and some have died. It is a sad thing.
Over the week end we had a boat show at the waterfront next to the Truman Annex (also known as the old sub basin). It was nice and sunny and in the mid 70's. Wyleigh, Sassi, Jo, and I had a good time.
B. O.'s Fish Wagon had their celebration of 10 year at the present location. A good time was had by all.
